With a view to promoting archaeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past and to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures and our shared humanity, AIA Ottawa is pleased to offer an annual Field School Incentive Fellowship with a value of up to 500$. The purpose of the fellowship is provide financial assistance for a first time participant in an archaeological field school recognized by the AIA.
AIA Ottawa invites applications for one fellowship (up to 500$) from students who will be attending an archaeological field school recognized by the AIA in 2023.
Application Criteria
An Applicant must be:
- at least 18 years old
- a student in good standing who is registered in a post-secondary institution in the National Capital Region
- attending an archaeological field school recognized by the AIA
- participating in archaeological fieldwork for the first time
Each applicant must submit the following before the stated deadline:
- a completed application form together with
- a letter of academic reference attesting to the applicant’s merit and
- a separate letter of intent incorporating details of the project, an explanation for choosing the particular excavation, personal expectations and any other pertinent information.
Incomplete or late applications will NOT be considered by the Selection Committee.
Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated an interest in AIA Ottawa and its activities such as becoming an AIA student member, attending and/or volunteering in its activities.
The recipient of the fellowship agrees to submit a final report on the use of the awarded funds and the impact of the experience (which may be printed in the AIA Ottawa Newsletter and/or website) and make a presentation at the annual From the Ground Up forum in the autumn following the dig. The recipient will have the option to serve on a future Selection Committee.
Deadline for Applications: April 1, 2023. The deadline will not be extended.
En vue de promouvoir la recherche archéologique ainsi que la compréhension public de l’histoire matérielle du passé humain et de favoriser une appréciation des diverses cultures et de notre heritage commune, AIA Ottawa est heureuse d’offrir une bourse annuelle d’une valeur de 500 $. Le but de la bourse est de fournir une aide financière à un(e) nouveau/nouvelle participant(e) dans une école de fouille reconnue par l’AIA.
AIA Ottawa invite les étudiants qui participeront à une école de fouilles archéologique reconnue par l’AIA en 2023 à soumettre une demande pour la bourse (jusqu’à concurrence de 500 $).
Critères d’application
Le demandeur doit:
- être âgé d’au moins 18 ans
- être un(e) étudiant(e) en règle inscrit dans un établissement d’enseignement postsecondaire de la région de la Capitale Nationale
- fréquenter une école de terrain archéologique reconnue par l’AIA
- participer à un travail archéologique pour la première fois
Chaque candidat doit soumettre ce qui suit avant la date limite indiquée:
- le formulaire de demande complété avec :
- une lettre de recommandation académique attestant le mérite du candidat, et
- une lettre d’intention incluant les détails du projet, une explication du choix de fouille, des attentes personnelles et toute autre information pertinente.
Les demandes incomplètes ou en retard ne seront PAS examinées par le comité de sélection.
La préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui ont manifesté un intérêt pour AIA Ottawa et ses activités, tel que l’adhésion en tant que membre étudiant de l’AIA, ou la participation et/ou bénévolat dans ses activités.
Le/la récipiendaire de la bourse accepte de soumettre un rapport final sur l’utilisation des fonds et l’impact de l’expérience (qui peut être imprimé dans le bulletin et/ou sur le site Web de l’AIA Ottawa) et de faire une présentation à la conférence annuelle « From the Ground Up » durant l’automne suivant la fouille. Le/la récipiendaire aura l’option de siéger sur un futur comité de sélection.
Date limite pour l’application: 1er avril 2023. La date limite ne sera pas prolongée.
